The catastrophe, by definition, is the denouement of a drama, especially a classical tragedy. The catastrophe of Frankenstein takes place in a family cottage, where Victor and Elizabeth are staying after their marriage. By earlier swearing to be with him on his wedding night, the monster had vowed his revenge. Over time, Frankenstein becomes more paranoid that the monster is coming for him. Worried that Elizabeth will be shocked by the monsters grotesque appearance, and caught in the battle between them, he tells her to go to sleep for the night. While searching the cottage for the monster, he hears a scream from the room where Elizabeth is staying, and realizes that the monster did not intend to cause his death that fateful night.
