The climax, the point in the story of the highest emotional intensity, takes place when the monster comes to see Frankenstein on his wedding night, just as he said he would. Instead of attempting to kill Frankenstein however, he kills Frankenstein's newly wedded wife, claiming his revenge against Frankenstein for not building him a female companion like himself, and shattering Frankenstein's heart and sanity. This event was the main cause of Frankenstein swearing to devote his life to killing the monster, and chasing it through the Arctic, where he was picked up by Captain Walton's ship to tell the story.
