Invocation can be defined as the calling on any supernatural force for assistance. An example of invocation in Frankenstein is the quote: "Wandering spirits, if indeed ye wander, and do not rest in your narrow beds, allow me this faint happiness, or take me, as your companion, away from the joys of life" (Shelley 85). In this quote, Frankenstein calls upon, or "invokes" any spirits that may be out in the world and not resting in their graves, or "narrow beds", to allow him happiness and ease his troubles, or to take him as their companion, in death and away from the joys of life. This shows how desperate Frankenstein was for a happy life, and how he truly felt that his life was far from it.
